Most of the products on this site are made with carrier oils and butters that some people may be allergic to. That said, this will be a list of all of the oils and butters used in the products, as well as what they are most helpful with. In the event that you would like to request a special order, this is where you will find a list of alternative oils.

All products are gluten free and chemical free. All butters and oils are as natural, pure, and organic as this small town housewife can find online and locally. Please remember, every product on this site has been personally used either by me, my children, or my family or friends. I will never make or sell anything that I would not myself use or feel safe to use on my own children. It is the responsibility of you, the consumer, to check the ingredient label to make sure that it is safe for you or your family.

Carrier Oils

-
FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL (FCO) - This oil is used most frequently in various products on this site due to the fact that it has many healthy skin benefits, provided that you are not allergic to coconuts, of course. FCO is a natural emollient, enriched with hydrating properties to soften and soothe dry or chapped skin. It is also odorless and colorless, making it perfect for blending into skin care products.
-
AVOCADO OIL- Extracted directly from the flesh of the avocado, it is high in antioxidants and is rich in Vitamin E, containing elements that can reduce skin damage, tighten skin, and reduce wrinkles. (I could list these scientific elements, but I can't even pronounce them so if you really want to know them, message me and I'll email them to you. Until then, let's just be satisfied with this!) Few people are allergic to avocados or their oil, making this a great alternative oil to people with sensitivities or allergies to coconut or nut based oils. It has a yellow color which can alter the color of the finished product, but not much and the slight aroma is, ironically, slightly nutty but not offensive. Usually, the essential oils in the entire product will mask any avocado scent there might be.
-
GRAPESEED OIL - Extracted from the seeds of grapes (you know, those pesky things most people throw out so of course they are the healthiest part of the fruit!) These seeds are loaded with powerful antioxidants and natural plant compounds that have been extensively studied for their ability to battle free radicals. Other beneficial properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, antiviral, and antibacterial. All the good "anti's"! Again, if someone is searching for an alternative oil due to allergies to coconut or nut oils, this would be another good choice. Colorless and odorless, it also is a good alternative.
-
EVENING PRIMROSE OIL - Made from the seeds of the flower of a plant that has traditionally been used to treat bruises, hemorrhoids, digestive problems and sore throats. The oil can help reduce inflammation of the skin, smooth skin, improve elasticity. It is golden yellow in color and has a slightly nutty scent. It is also known for it's hormone balancing properties and as such is recommended for women especially.
-
JOJOBA OIL - This one mimics the skin's natural oils and is actually a liquid plant wax. Native Americans used jojoba oil to treat sores and bruises. It is an emollient so it soothes the skin and is also used to treat acne, psoriasis, sunburn, and chapped skin by itself. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and contains loads of vitamins B and E. Because it is actually a wax, it does not feel greasy.
-
POMEGRANATE SEED OIL - Just as it sounds, this oil is extracted from pomegranate seeds. It is richly nutritious, reinvigorates the skin, fights free radicals, is anti-inflammatory, improves skin texture, and seems perfect for all skin types. It works by deeply penetrating into the skin, resulting in lasting , healthy moisture. It is amber in color and has a fruity scent. A little goes a long way, which is good because this is a pricier oil, as it takes over 200 lbs of seeds to make just one pound of oil!
-
APRICOT SEED OIL - Extracted from apricot seeds, this oils is very similar to almond oil. Like almond oil, this oil also has a nutty scent and is pale yellow in color. It is an emollient, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-septic, antioxidant, and anti-aging.
-
ROSEHIP SEED OIL - Truly a powerhouse of nourishment for your skin, this oil has regenerative capabilities, is very soothing, and can be used by most skin types, but is especially useful for mature skin. Considered a "dry" oil because it soaks easily into the skin without leaving a greasy feel, it is a wonderful hydrator. Slightly orange in color, it also has a unique aroma, not unpleasant.
-
SWEET ALMOND OIL - Emollient, soothing, gentle, this oil is one of the most commonly used carrier oils available. Pale yellow with a slightly nutty scent, it keep skin soft, moisturized, and can protect against the sun's damaging rays. It is so gentle, it is most commonly used in children's blends.
-
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL- We know this oil predominantly for it's culinary uses. Used topically, it can relieve dry, chapped skin, can decrease risk of skin cancer when used after sun exposure, and helps skin breathe easier making it look healthier. In studies with osteoarthritis patients, olive oil rubbed on aching knees alleviated their pain and improved the function of the joint.

Butters

-
COCONUT OIL - solid at room temperature, coconut oil has antioxidant properties that make it wonderful for treating psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and other skin diseases. It can also delay the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin.
-
SHEA BUTTER - Naturally rich in vitamins A, E, and F, it offer UV protection and can provide the skin with the fatty acids and nutrients necessary for collagen production. It is an emollient, reduces inflammation, and smooths skin.
-
COCOA or CACAO BUTTER - Extracted from the cocoa bean, it is the cocoa, or cacao, butter that gives chocolate it's silky texture and does the same for skin. This is a healthy fat, mostly saturated, much like coconut oil. This fat prevents skin drying and peeling, is antioxidant, soothes burns, rashes, and infections, and also is anti-aging. It has a distinct scent, similar to chocolate.
-
MANGO BUTTER - Similar to cocoa and shea butter, this butter has a slightly different fat content. It, likewise, is an excellent emollient, loaded with vitamins A and C, and can improve the appearance of one's skin. Unlike the others, it is very hard at room temperature and is not reliable as a stand alone moisturizer.

Misc.
-
ARROWROOT POWDER - A starch extracted from rhizomes of the Marantaceae family of plants. (Yeah, I don't know what those are, either, but these are just the facts.) Traditionally, arrowroot was used to heal wounds from poisoned arrows, scorpion bites, and gangrene. Nifty little plant. Naturally gluten free, arrowroot is an excellent thickener for gravies, sauces, etc, when used for culinary purposes. (Personally, I love cooking with arrowroot powder! It's also supposed to be good for digestions.) Back to topical uses: it can be used in place of talcum powder in moisture creams. A natural skin soother, it also absorbs moisture and draws it deeper into the skin, causing the moisturizer to last longer.
-
VEGETABLE GLYCERIN - a clear, odorless liquid produced from plant oils, usually coconut, palm, or soy oils. It is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture to the skin and makes the essential oils and other oils easier to be absorbed.
